LITERARY MAGAZINES: MATCHMAKING BETWEEN WRITERS AND READERS
Literary magazines connect short story writers with their audience and provide for novelists an opportunity to establish a platform and garner enthusiasm for their book publications. Duotrope.com currently lists over 4500 English-language lit mags, of which over 3500 accept fiction. Not all magazines are created equal: some will only accept work of a certain genre, some focus on writing about a particular geographic location, others lean toward a theme (ecology, health, gender), and all differ based on reading preferences of their editors. In this session, we'll discuss some strategies for identifying the magazines that might be most interested in your work and for maximizing the chances that your submission will reach the right editor. |
