2010 Lecture Description

Dispersing Cultural Stereotypes
Instructor: Mahbod Seraji

True representation of national cultures while avoiding stereotypes is central to the authentic depiction and development of characters in a novel.

National cultures have been categorized into three groups of Linear-Active, Multi-Active, and Reactive. These cultural categories will be examined during this two hour lecture - discussion class designed for authors at all levels.

Cultural dilemmas, avoidance of stereotypes, dealing with ethnocentric readers and critics are topics that will be discussed in depth. Sections of Rooftops Of Tehran and other novels will be used for discussion purposes.
