The Mendocino Coast Writers Conference offers full-tuition scholarships to up to five young writers who live or attend school in any one of these five Northern California counties: Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, or Sonoma.

Applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 25 at the time of the conference, which takes place at the end of July. Awards are made on the basis of merit. This scholarship is for conference fees only; travel and lodging expenses are not covered.

Winners are full participants in intensive workshops as well as in all lectures, panel discussions and literary readings. Their work is also considered for publication in MCWC's online literary journal.

The application window is March 15 through May 1 of the conference year. Selections will be made and scholarship winners notified by May 15. Detailed guidelines will be published in mid-January, 2013.

One of the best parts of the conference was the opportunity to share my writing. It was fun to talk to all the other writers at the conference; everyone treated me as an equal.

The Writers' Conference taught me that becoming a writer is not an unattainable career that only unusual luck and talent can bestow on one; instead this dream requires only hard work, determination, and—well—maybe just a touch of luck.
