High School Scholarship Program

The conference encourages young writers in Mendocino County high schools to apply for a full-tuition scholarship to attend our summer conference, to be held at the College of the Redwoods campus.

Winners of the 2009 High School Scholarships were:

  • Rosli Chan, Fort Bragg High School
  • Sierra Kuny, Anderson Valley High School
  • Lara Petersen, Willits Charter High School
  • Matthew Springer, Fort Bragg High School
  • Maribel Garcia, Anderson Valley High School
  • Jacqueline Ayala, Fort Bragg High School
  • Lindsay Ware, Fort Bragg High School

Winners are full participants in intensive workshops as well as in all lectures, panel discussions and literary readings. Their work is also considered for publication in The Todd Point Review.

High school students should apply for scholarships using the form included in the High School guidelines. For the 2010 conference, submit an application with a writing sample no later than May 1, 2010.

One of the best parts of the conference was the opportunity to share my writing. It was fun to talk to all the other writers at the conference; everyone treated me as an equal.
Marie Champagne,
Mendocino Community High School

The Writers' Conference taught me that becoming a writer is not an unattainable career that only unusual luck and talent can bestow on one; instead this dream requires only hard work, determination, and—well—maybe just a touch of luck.
Jasper Henderson,
Fort Bragg High School
