WRITING CONTEST GUIDELINES

The MCWC Writing Contests are completely separate from the Scholarships program. Applications for Scholarships go to a separate committee; the Contest judges will not know which manuscripts are from scholarship applicants. In other words, judging is blind and fair, following the CLMP Code of Ethics.

Entries that fail to follow these guidelines will be disqualified. Note that your name should not appear anywhere on the actual manuscript, only in your cover letter as described below.

To enter, prepare ONE email with the following address and subject and that will have two attachments.

  • Address: contests@mcwc.org
  • Subject: State your genre category (pick one of the six categories from list above)

Attachment #1: Create a word.doc or a .docx file containing a brief cover letter with:

  • Your name, address, email, phone number
  • The title of your piece and the category you are entering
  • A declaration that the submission is your original work.

Attachment #2 Create a new word.doc. or .docx file for your submission. Number the pages, put the title of the piece in the document header, but do not include your name.

Format: 12 point type, Times New Roman font with 1-inch margins, black ink and double-spaced. Correct spelling, grammar and punctuation do count. Note that poetry may disrupt these guidelines in terms of margins and spacing but must use no font smaller than 12 point.

Double check that your entry follows the guidelines with correct attachments and submit to: contests@mcwc.org. All entries due by 11:59 p.m. on Friday June 26, 2015. No exceptions!
