Sy Safransky, editor of The Sun magazine, says "Alison Luterman's passionate, original poetry sets my heart on fire. When the heat becomes unbearable, she leads me to the water and puts the fire out. A writer of enormous talent, she embraces the wounded world around her, and reveals herself to be a part of it, prisoner to the same fears and desires as the rest of us. Her poems are acts of mercy." Her books are The Largest Possible Life, Cleveland State University Press, 2001, and See How We Almost Fly, Pearl Editions, 2010.

She has taught in a variety of settings, from homeless shelters to retreat centers, to high schools and University classrooms, and excels at creating a safe space in which she encourages participants to go deep, take risks, and say the thing they have always yearned to express. In addition to poetry she writes essays and plays and performs with an improvisational dance theatre troupe.
