Malin Alegria was raised in San Francisco's Mission District. She's a graduate of UC Santa Barbara and received her MA in Education. She is a young-adult author, educator, ecowarrior, Aztec dancer, and performer. She has performed and wrote with the theater group Teatro Nopal in Santa Barbara and the WILL Collective in NYC. Malin is a member of Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and the Traditional Native American Farmer's Association.

Her first novel, "Estrella's Quinceñera" was published by Simon & Schuster in 2006. "Sofi Mendoza's Guide to Getting Lost in Mexico" was released May 2007. Her short stories have appeared in the anthologies "Once Upon a Cuento", and "15 Candles: 15 Tales of Taffeta, Hairspray, Drunk Uncles, and other Quinceañera Stories".

In 2008, Malin was a San Francisco Library Laureate and voted Top Ten Authors to Watch and Read by Latinostories.com. Malin recently completed her first movie script, an adaptation of her third novel. Malin has led workshops in junior and high schools and universities all over the United States. Malin currently lives in Albuquerque where she teaches and is hard at work editing her third novel.
